Note from the Artist:
Some years ago I had the good fortune to attend a demonstration and workshop with Mr. Cheng-Khee Chee at the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society in Buffalo, New York. I'll be sharing two techniques Mr. Chee taught to our group. I'll will also have handouts that list needed materials and describe these two techniques in a step-by-step manner.
MONOPRINTING - Paint watercolors directly onto a rigid non-porous surface and then drop masa or hosho paper onto the painted surface. Let dry. Lift off and optionally add dry brush work.
MARBLEIZING - Fill a tub with water. Float ink on the surface of the water. Swirl the ink around. Skim kozo paper across the surface picking up ink. Adjust the shapes and tone of the resulting piece. (Optional: add spot watercolor washes.) If time permits we'll talk about how to mount the piece.
